Chat Recipe

Chat / Chaat is a very popular South Asian street food, filled with a lot of spices, a fun food to eat. Chat consists of a lots of ingredients like potato, tomato, onions, grams, peas etc all blended together with lots of different spices. You can find these Chat being made in lots of Indian Street food places.
You can prepare these very tasty Chat in your home too, by following this Chat Recipe I have shared. All you need to make perfect Chat out of this Chat Recipe is the sense of balance of flavors, as the spices and flavors you add in the dish must blend together all these ingredients to serve a true South Asian Chat!

So, here is my Chat Recipe:

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup boiled otatoes ,cut into small cubes
  • 2 cup Grams or Chick pea (soaked overnight)
  • 2 Onion, cut into circular thin slices
  • 2 cup Yogurt
  • 4-5 Green chilies
  • 2 medium size tomato, cut into circular slices
  • 1 tbsp Ginger paste
  • 1/2 cup Coriander leaves
  • 1/4 cup Mint leaves
  • 1 tbsp Red chili powder
  • Chat Masala to taste
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as required 
  • Bhujia for Garnish
Procedure:
  • Boil grams/chick peas with ginger paste, red pepper, salt and water in a medium saucepan for 30-40 minutes. The level of water should just cover the peas. You can also pressure cook them for about 15 minutes.
  • Blend mint leaves, coriander leaves, green chilies, salt and yogurt to make smooth paste.
  • In your Serving plate, make a layer of yogurt mixture and gram at the bottom, and then add a layer of boiled potatoes over it, then add onions, tomatoes over it.
  • Sprinkle Chat Masala over it.
  • Give the dish a final touch by adding a little Bhujia, and coriander leaves on the top.
