Bara is a really tasty Newari food which can be described as Black Lentils Deep fried patties. It is a popular Nepalese Appetizer. Making "Bara" is not a difficult job to do, you can make some perfect Bara by following these simple recipe.

- Black lentil 1 cup
- 1/4 tsp Asafetida (called Hing in Nepal)
- 1/2 tsp Cumin Powder ("Jeera")
- 1 tbsp paste of Ginger
- Oil (for deep frying)
- Salt to taste
- Soap the black lentil for 8-10 hours (leave them overnight) so that the black coating can be easily removed, remove all black coating.
- Grind the lentils, putting minimum amount of water to make a thick paste.
- Now, mix other ingredients to the lentil paste.
- Heat oil for deep frying.
- Make the patty shapes of the dough, and make a hole at the center.
- Put the patty to deep fry carefully, until both sides turn Golden brown in color.
Now your Bara (Lentil patty) is ready to be served. You can serve these Bara with Chilly pickes to add that taste, or Bara are good to be eaten alone too.

ReplyDeleteIt is Wo, not Bara if you wish to call it Newah food. Wo is a term in Khas Bhasa, not Nepal Bhasa.
It is Newah food, not Newari food.
Please correct the wrong names.
