Gwarmari - Newari Food Recipe

Gwarmari
Gwarmari is an interesting and very easy Newari Food Recipe ( a sub-category of Nepalese Cuisine).  These are made from flour made into a good paste and then fried. It is best preferred with tea in the morning, but you may even have it with curry and pickles too.

Here is my Gwaramari Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 kg Flour (Atta)
  • 1/2 tbsp Baking powder
  • Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Ginger and Garlic paste
  • 2 cups of Water (approx.)
  • Sunflower Oil ( for deep-frying)
Procedure:

    • Mix flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl.
    • Add water to it, little by little stirring it continuously to make the flour a thick paste.
    • Cover the bowl and leave it overnight.
  • Heat oil for deep frying.
  • Now take a tablespoon of the Flour paste and put it into the heated oil.
  • The flour should slowly fluff up. Fry until it gets a good brown color. You can cook as many of them at a time according to the size of your fryer.
  • Take out the now prepared Gwarmaris and soak the oil in a paper.
  • Serve hot with tea.
This was an easy Gwarmari recipe, you can have as a Breakfast with tea. You can also have this lovely dish with Curry too.

    1. Don't add eggs. And I think we can skip ginger and garlic. I have never used ginger and garlic while making these. You can add a little sugar though, makes it taste better.

  10. Never submerge gwara mari completely in oil. Can cause life threatening accident. Always use flat bottom pan and let only half of the gwaramari dip in oil while frying

    1. Yes this is the most important caution the author should have mentioned in the article. When the dough is completely submerged it will burst and cause hot oil burns on face and other part of body.

  11. Great work! But please correct some mistakes in the names of the food.
It is Gwaramari, not Gwarmari. It is Newah food, not Newari food.
    Please correct the wrong names.
    Subhay!
